1stXI v Merton 1st XI
Won Score: 3-2 League Home
Scorers: Anthony 2, Taylor
Report: Our 3-2 victory away at second placed Ibis last week was followed by an identical score line against the current league leaders Merton. Again having to come from a goal down after 10 mins, we quickly got ourselves on level terms when Codd's breakaway was thwarted by their keeper only for the ball to fall kindly for Anthony to side foot home from 10 yards. Anthony added a second soon afterwards from close range but unfortunately our lead was short lived and we gifted Merton a cheap equaliser failing to clear a bouncing ball in our area, 20 mins gone and already 2 goals each. However the best was yet to come when Matt Taylor restored our lead with a spectacular effort, having flicked the ball over an opponent on the half way line he went passed another before unleashing an unstoppable left foot shot from 20 yards which found the top corner. 5 goals in the 1st half suggested more goals to come after the break but although both sides had chances there were no further additions to the score. Merton could argue that they had more of the ball in the second period but we certainly produced more clear cut opportunities and for the sake of those watching a 2 goal cushion would have calmed the nerves considerably! fortunately we held on for a well deserved and hard fought victory that now leaves us level on points at the top of the table with Merton.

Report: With four players turning up ten minutes into the first half it was a bad start that got progressively worse and worse still as the game went on. A performance that needs to be quickly forgotten as we go into a semi final this week at Ebogs… having said that if not for the woodwork (at least three times maybe four), some good saves and some woeful finishing, we could have scored six or seven on another day.

Man Of The Match: Steve Cox.
Special mention: Bobby Hankins – Black cab driver who got us lost.

4thXI v Old Finchleians 4th XI
Won Score: 2-0 League Home
Scorers: Woods, Kyriakides
Report: A tremendous team performance against robust opposition saw us run out comfortable winners!! The oppo could not deal with our midfield who dominated the game at times playing some real quality football. When the oppo did break their only outlet was their talented centre forward and he was thwarted time and again by our back 4 who had a solid game. Up front Alex K and Sean H worked hard and on another day may have netted a couple more. Jason had little to do in goal but when he was called upon he was always equal to the task; one brilliant save in the last minute was applauded even by the oppo!! A great 3 points which puts us in amongst one of 6 teams vying for the top spot. Although a great team performance a special mention for man of the match Savva who was outstanding in the middle of the park. Tony Hunn was out standing with him!!
