Match Reports for Saturday 21st March 2015

Old Stationers 5 vs Old Garchonians 5, Lost 2-1 (Away).

We started the game with the return of 3 regulars back, with the team having more of a balance to it. We decided to go 4-5-1 in terms of formation with the players that we had for this week. Our plan was to get off to a solid start and not to concede in the first 20 minutes.Whatever was said before the kick just didn't seem to stay in our heads. We struggled to close down spaces and allowed the opposition to put their foot on the ball who had some decent and skillfull youngsters.Ten minutes in and a ball which was played out to the opposition left back who had so much time to look up and cross the ball into the box where we struggled to clear for their player to poke home from a few yards out. It seems like we need to be behind before we start to play,as was the case today. We started to get to grips with the game and totally dominate play. For long periods the oppoposition was just happy to boot the ball out. Five minutes before half time we broke from the right side with a cross from John Murphy to Ross Wright who set up his own volley and smash the ball into the net which was nothing less than we deserved 1-1 half time. Second half began with Ed Williams and David Campbell coming off and AJ and jazzy coming on. We started out of the blocks quickly with us controlling the play and putting them on the back foot for long periods. Halfway through and the oppoposition broke and played a ball across the edge of the box which was not closed down and the opposition player struck the ball just past Sam's fingertip into the roof of the net 2-1 down. Twenty odd minutes to try and get something from the game we pushed and pushed and jazz played in Jay Gladdy who only had the keeper to beat but jay sliced the ball high and wide. Still the chances came when excellent hold up play from Jazzy yet again as he held off two centre backs and played in Murphy who should of scored but got his foot stuck and missed the target. It was all us and Mike d played a ball out to Ross blackmore on the right who for no unknown reason decided to shoot at an impossible angle when we had so much players in the box queing up for the ball to be delivered. Valiant both teams were but when the ref blew the whistle we didn't want to hear it.The oppoposition were running around like they won the world cup. Today we should of got at least a point. We didnt deserve that. But now we have 8 games left and we need to put that spirit and display into the rest of the season. Treat them like 8 cup finals. Man of the match Ross Wright dynamic midfield display, at the heart of everything and a well taken goal. Special mention to Jazzy great strength and pace ,great hold up play.
