Match Report - 1st XI v Cambridge Heath
OSFC 4-0 Cambridge Heath
The last league fixture of 2019 saw us entertain Cambridge Heath who we have already beaten in the cup and drawn with in the league this season. Just as the away game at Hackney Marshes was played in torrential conditions, this one topped it. Absolutely horrendous rain.
Back to our 4-2-3-1 formation this week saw us start confidently on the ball with Power and Wattsy having a combined 145 touches in the first half. Despite this we were lucky to not go behind early on when the Heath left winger cannoned an early shot off the post that rebounded gratefully into Jacko’s arms. For all our probing we didn’t really test the keeper as we would have liked to in the nightmare conditions for any GK. Finally we did as Elsey rifled a bouncing ball in off the skidding turf from 25 yards to give us the lead.
As the ref blew up for half time we were happy with our performance but knew we had another gear or two to go up. Despite agreeing with the oppo and ref to have a very quick turnaround due to the weather, nature called for the ref and he went off and sat in Trap 2 for what felt like 20 mins.
The second half wasn’t the greatest in terms of quality but that can be largely be put down to the conditions. The returning Marcus was slipped through by Elsey and finished as if he had never been away making it 2-0. 5 minutes later he showed he had been away as he missed the chance to put us 3-0 up when David was on for an open goal had it been squared.
We finally put the game to bed 20 mins from time as Breen’s corner was stood up invitingly for Jamo to nod home the 3rd.
There was time for an exhibition 4th as Elsey’s delightful ball picked out Phillips for a “needed” diving header. Not sure.
A comfortable victory was welcomed and we can go into the second half of the season in high confidence that promotion is a big possibility. Shoutout to Marcus and Wale making their returns to the side - slotted back in seamlessly.
Merry Christmas. See you Boxing Day. COYS.
