Match Reports for Saturday 29th November 2014

4th XI v EBOG 6th XI (Away) WON 4-1 A great team effort against a highly organised and combative EBOG side who somewhat surprisingly are bottom of the table. We began tentatively, perhaps due to the mixture of players today who had not all played together, and we welcomed Mark Guildea to the team in central midfield. The first 20 minutes were largely dominated by EBOG, who managed a couple of efforts on goal but the magnificent Tommy Attrill between the sticks repelled everything, flipping one shot over the bar and turning another cross shot around his far post. As you might expect, the pace of Jamie Luis, and the determined play of Chris Morphites and Darragh Deering meant the oppo had t

2nd XI v IBIS DREW 2-2 (Home), League A 2-2 draw against one of our rivals hasn't damaged our promotion bid, although we were only a few minutes away from all 3 points. Twice leading, we conceded from an absolute screamer in the dying minutes.

1st XI v Old Blues WON 3-0 (Away) As we arrived in standard Stationer’s fashion, half the team lost or stuck somewhere near Hanger Lane, you couldn’t help but get the feeling of deja vu. But when we eventually did get out onto the pitch, with 5 minutes before kickoff, we found the opposition finishing off their hour long warm up! Apart from all this, there was still a quiet confidence amongst our ranks, thanks to two previous impressive cup displays. The game kicked off and right from the start we were on it. Unless my eyes were deceiving me, I had just witnessed an Old Stationers first eleven put ten passes together, and create a chance, without the other team even touching the ball. Howeve

5th XI LOST 3-1 v EBOG 5s (Old Boys Cup) Nick will update this post with more thoughts later in the week but for now suffice to say it was always going to be tough against a team flying in their division (two above our own) and on the day the better team won, but we gave a good account of ourselves. It was hard work on a soggy pitch against a lively oppo who had more of the ball and to be fair created more chances than us, but after falling behind to a strike of the highest quality from outside the box into the far top corner we got to half time level, with Darragh "tough-mudder" Deering poking the ball over the line after Dan Avis had unsettled their keeper from a Ross Blackmore free kick.

2nd XI v Old Esthamians - DREW (Home) 0-0 As the scoreline suggests, this was a poor game in contrast to what we know and expect from OSFC. We never got into our rhythm with the usual free flowing attacking football and with a few players pulling out on the day a re-jig of the team was needed. Nevertheless the first half did produce our best chances, the first coming from a corner with Paul Greavse heading just over followed up by a 1-on-1 in which Louie narrowly skewed wide. A battle was taking place, with Old Esthameians using their size and power to get under the skin of our boys, with big tackles flying in this wasn't a game for the faint hearted. HT. A chance to re group and re-evaluate

2nd XI - WON (Home) v Southgate Olympic Res. After last seasons three way title shoot out between Old Stationers, Old Garchonians and Southgate Olympic. A reunion with rivals Southgate Olympic had the team excited. Victory today would culminate in to Stationers’ 4th win since their opening day defeat to Ibis. The game kicked off and instantly Old Stationers were applying pressure to the Southgate backline. After a succession of corners, Pani found the net with a powerful header from Sam’s cross. However before celebrating, the ref deemed a foul to have taken place a ruled out the early goal. Shortly after Kieron slid a teasing ball into Pani, he held the ball up in the box before being taken
