2nd XI v Old Esthamians - DREW (Home) 0-0

(2) 3rd XI Champions 201314.jpeg

As the scoreline suggests, this was a poor game in contrast to what we know and expect from OSFC.

We never got into our rhythm with the usual free flowing attacking football and with a few players pulling out on the day a re-jig of the team was needed.

Nevertheless the first half did produce our best chances, the first coming from a corner with Paul Greavse heading just over followed up by a 1-on-1 in which Louie narrowly skewed wide. A battle was taking place, with Old Esthameians using their size and power to get under the skin of our boys, with big tackles flying in this wasn't a game for the faint hearted.

HT. A chance to re group and re-evaluate our game plan for the 2nd half.

Unfortunately a goal wasn't to follow, but a big mention to our GK Mario Aristidou who was by far our best player on the day, he single handedly kept the oppositions attacks out with some superb saves. He stood tall while throwing his body at everything, claiming corners, smothering the loose balls and made sure his defence never gave up. All credit goes to Mario on keeping our 3rd clean sheet of the season.

2 points dropped or 1 point saved? I think it ended up being 1 point saved from a game we could have easily lost, but as always, the character and spirit of every player still shone through and we didn't give up, or shy away even in our toughest moments which is part of our team's DNA. We will bounce back even stronger and move onto our next match.
